What is the Takeoff Festival?

In our 21st year we go back again to first principles – how to make the richest possible theatre for the very youngest, whose experience of the world is so short but already crammed with learning.

Everyone knows the first five years are the most important, laying essential foundations for the amazing person who will grow up alert and eager to take on the world.

But we also look forwards. Some things don’t change: humans have always needed live theatre as a shared, immediate and public expression of collective attitudes and individual feelings.

Takeoff 2008 looks forward to many more years of celebrating professional artists dedicated to making the best possible theatre for young audiences.
